Will Mumbai Indians take back captaincy from Hardik Pandya after 4th defeat against CSK?

Hardik Pandya Captaincy lost.

After the 4th defeat for Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday 14th April on Wankhede, Mumbai Indians fans and cricket experts are heavily criticizing Hardik Pandya for poor captaincy.

Mumbai Indians has lost 4 matches out of 6 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy and each defeat will be reducing their chances of getting qualified. The captaincy in general was very ordinary as he took 3 reviews during the match and all of them were for wide and MI lost all 3 reviews. Although the captain bowled the 16th over by himself and took some crucial wickets but the 20th over that he bowled was a huge blunder as he gave 26 runs in the last over.

Rohit Sharma scored 105 not out and stood firm on the ground for the entire 20 overs and the crowd also witnessed his 500th six in T20 carrier as he is the first Indian batsman to reach that milestone. But Rohit Sharma  didn’t get enough support from the other to chase 206 runs, while Hardik Pandya scored just 2 runs of 6 balls and was again booed by the crowd at Wankhede.

Mumbai Indians are currently standing at a very crucial stage of the tournament as they have still 8 matches to go and to qualify for the playoffs they will need to win 6 more matches out the remaining 8 and as everybody has seen in this tournament so far that things  are not working out well for Hardik Pandya as fans still haven’t accepted him as their captain and since Rohit Sharma is a terrific captain who has led the team to 5 trophies.

Looking at the current scenario, the management and MI coaching staff may look back at Rohit Sharma again for captaining the team for rest of the series. However, if this happens it won’t be the first time in Mumbai Indians’ history. In 2013, MI made Ricky Pointing as the captain but after first 6 matches when he struggled to score big and lost 3 out of 6 matches MI gave the captaincy to Rohit Sharma and they won their first title that year and the rest is history.

So handing over the captaincy back to Rohit Sharma won’t be surprising but it will be also important to see whether he is will to lead the team again or not.

We will have to wait and see what the Mumbai Indians management decides.
